On Thursday, Dec. 12, Bay County Utilities will begin a winter drawdown of Deer Point Reservoir, as requested by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.
The drawdown is aimed at reducing the number of weeds growing in the reservoir by killing them due to exposure to freezing temperatures. The action, according to the FWC, would serve to decrease nuisance aquatic vegetation, improve boater access and enhance fish and wildlife habitat.

Bay County Shooting Park to begin construction in January
Permitting for the Bay County Shooting Park, to be located near Steelfield Landfill off State 79, is currently under way, with groundbreaking on the project expected to begin in January. Please click the link below to visit the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission's Web site for updates and a conceptual drawing of the plan. Once construction begins, the site will be regularly updated by the FWC. Phase 1 rifle and pistol ranges are expected to be completed by Spring 2014. The shooting range is a partnership between the Bay County Board of County Commissioners and the FWC.

Harder's Park lights up
Christmas lights are on display at H.G. Harder's Park, located at 8110 John Pitts Road, Panama City. Visitors are encouraged to take a drive through the park and enjoy the scenery. The lights will be up through the New Year's Day.
County accepting applications for TDC appointments
The Bay County Board of County Commissioners is accepting applications for appointments to the Bay County Tourist Development Council. One appointment is for a county bed-tax collector position and one is for a county non-collector position.
